Our History

Bombo Army Secondary School was founded in 1997 by the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) as part of an initiative to provide quality education to the children of soldiers, as well as to the surrounding communities in Bombo Town, Luwero District. The school was established with a clear vision—to offer affordable, accessible, and high-quality education as a welfare intervention for the children of military personnel and the children of fallen comrades.

At the time of its inception, the school had only 75 students. These students were mostly children of military personnel, reflecting the school’s original focus on providing educational opportunities for the families of UPDF soldiers. LT. Silver Bamuruho was the first headteacher, leading the school from 1997 to 2002, and was followed by Maj. Wilfred M. Rwanjeru (2002-2004), Maj. Remegio Ahimbisibwe Mukasa (2004-2005), and Mrs. Birungi Alice Baruga, who has served as the headteacher since 2005.

The school began as a day-only secondary school, offering basic education and laying the foundation for a strong academic tradition. Over the years, the student population has grown tremendously, reflecting the school’s commitment to delivering quality education. Today, Bombo Army Secondary School is home to over 4,000 students, including both boys and girls, with a dedicated teaching staff of 136 teachers who serve in various academic and support roles.

As the school grew, so did its vision and the breadth of its academic offerings. Originally focused on catering to the children of soldiers, Bombo Army Secondary School gradually opened its doors to students from surrounding communities, becoming an inclusive institution that serves a diverse student body. The school continues to be guided by its founding mission: to provide quality, affordable, and equitable education to all students, regardless of their background or family circumstances.
